George H. Legg

George H. Legg of Accord, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old. George was born on October 4, 1938 in Ellenville, NY; he was the son of Harry K. and Beulah (Wright) Legg.


George was a graduate of Ellenville Central School where he lettered in baseball, football and track and field. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1961 and served during Vietnam where he earned badges for being a Marksman and Sharpshooter. George was honorably discharged in 1963 and continued serving his country in the Army Reserves.


As a young man George enjoyed stock car driving, hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. He was a self taught guitarist and played with the Oakridge Ramblers with Doc Sheeley and then started his own band the Country Travelers with his wife Patricia. Together they played gigs around town and in there down time they enjoyed square dancing with the Left Footers. George and Patricia also operated Photography on Call and would capture friends and families important life events. George was often seen photographing the races at the Accord Speedway and the Oakland Valley Raceway. He never left home without his camera around his neck.


George was an electrician by trade and had worked with Thorton’s and Whitman’s Electric. He later became a security guard for VAW then Hydro Aluminum. George was a member of the Federated Church of Kerhonkson where he and Pat would share their love of music during worship on Sunday’s.


In addition to his wife Patricia whom he married on December 10, 1973, George is survived by their children, Ivan (Skip) and Lori Leggé of Oswego, NY, Daniel and Donette Legg of Goldsboro, NC, Mary Cook and her companion Doug of Bessemer, PA, Jennifer and Freddy Dvorak of Deltona, FL and Ilene Roger of Accord, NY; 13 grandchildren, Christian, Lindsey, Brennan, Josh, Rachel, Jordan, Shane, Marissa, Matthew, Morgan, Tiffany, Joseph and Carlton; 4 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.


George was predeceased by his parents, his sister Beatrice Budd and his brother-in-law Carl Budd.


Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, May 5th at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St. Kerhonkson. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 12 pm at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson. Burial with military honors will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery.


The family asks in lieu of flowers please send donations in George’s name to the Federated Church of Kerhonkson.
