Preplanning a Funeral
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Pre-planning our final arrangements is another wise investment that protects those we love.
Preplanning a funeral allows an individual to make specific choices for a funeral service based on personal preferences. This act will have some significant benefits for you and your family. First and foremost, it ensures peace of mind, and relieves the individual’s loved ones of a decision-making process at a stressful time. They won’t have to try and guess what you would have wanted, they will know. Preplanning also sets aside funeral funding so that the family will not have to deal with monetary considerations when a death occurs. Another benefit is that SSI/Medicaid recipients are allowed to set aside money to fully fund the funeral service of their choice prior to their own funds becoming exhausted down to necessary eligibility levels. It gives you comfort that your funeral will take place according to your own wishes, and eases the burden on your family members.
You may chose to do as much or as little as you see appropriate for your individual circumstances. Pre-planning can include providing statistical information, selection of service details and merchandise and may also include financial pre-funding.
