Anna Slobodian, age 79, of Sloatsburg and formerly of Kerhonkson, NY, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Nyack Hospital. She was born on October 7, 1938 in Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Wasyl and Kataryna (Zelman) Lewocka.
Anna had lived in Kerhonkson for 53 years before recently moving to Sloatsburg. Anna and Daniel, her husband of 41 years, were very community minded people. They owned Mother Goose Children's Shop in Ellenville until 1979. She was a member of the Ukrainian National Association, the Ukrainian National Women’s' League of America, PLAST Scouting Organization and served on various committees in the Ukrainian community. She was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church and of St. Volodymyr Chapel in Kerhonkson. Her husband Daniel predeceased her in 2005.
She is survived by her daughters; Olenka K. Castelli and her husband Daniel of Portland, CT and Roma L. Halatyn of Dobbs Ferry, NY. Her grandchildren; Kate, Suzanna and Zoe.
Besides her husband Anna was predeceased by her sister, Halyna Mytrofaniuk and her son-in-law Michael Halatyn..
The family would like to thank the Sisters and staff at St. Joseph's Adult Care Home in Sloatsburg, NY for the loving care and companionship they gave to Anna and extended to her entire family.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, March 4th from 5-7pm at HB Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. The Panakhyda will begin at 6pm that evening. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, March 5th 10am at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonkson.
