Anna May Trimpe

September 20, 1918 — October 15, 2018

Anna Jamison Trimpe (Morrarty)

Anna May Jamison Trimpe died peacefully on Oct. 15, 2018, at Woodland Pond, New Paltz. Anna was born on Sept. 20, 1918, in Peekskill, the fourth child and only daughter of Abram and Eva Mae (Cronk) Jamison.

A longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Peekskill, she served as president of the Ladies Afternoon Guild for many years. She was also a chaplain and party planner for the Norcourt Seniors. She loved a good party, and for decades the Trimpe home on Locust Avenue was the site of many picnics, holiday parties and feasts. Skilled at crunching numbers, Anne (as she liked to be called) was also an incredibly lucky dice thrower in the many games of Yahtzee she enjoyed playing with her son Herb and assorted grandchildren. She had quit high school in a fit of pique when she was 16, much to her later regret, but at age 50 she went back to school and got “a real diploma,” she said. “I didn’t want to settle for the GED.”

She was generous, loving and lively, and she always tried to live by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She will be greatly missed in the lives of all who knew her, including family, friends and many of the staff at Woodland Pond.

Anna is survived by six grandchildren: Melissa Trimpe Olds (Lawrence), Mark Daniel Trimpe (Alison) and Jenn Trimpe, all of Virginia; Alexander (Amy-Marie Rivera), Amelia (David Wilhelm) and Sarah (Michael DeVaul) Trimpe, all of New York; great-grandchildren Phoenix and Hope Trimpe of Virginia, Calvin and Emmett Trimpe of Brooklyn, Beatrice and Jamison Wilhelm of Kerhonkson, and Adeline and Shelby DeVaul of Rockville Centre, as well as nieces, nephews and their children. She is also survived by former daughters-in-law Mary Dorritie Trimpe, Merrilee Travis, Linda Fite and Patricia Vasquez.

Having lived to 100, she was predeceased by “far too many” loved ones, as she said: her parents, of course, as well as her three brothers, Alan (Esther), Clarence (Margaret) and Arthur (Phyllis) Jamison, her first and second husbands, Herb Trimpe and Howard Morrarty, and both her sons, Michael Richard Trimpe in 2001 and Herbert William Trimpe in 2015. A burial service was held at Hillside Cemetery on Oct. 20, attended by family and friends.
