Arnold Jay Gottesman

Arnold Jay Gottesman 81, of Kerhonkson died on Monday, May 28, 2012. Arnold was born on September 1, 1930 in Manhattan, NY; he was the son of S. Lawrence and Ethel (Silverman) Gottesman.

Arnold had served his country in the United States Army from 1948-1949 and the Army Reserve from 1949-1954. He attended Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan and had graduated from NYU in 1953 and then St. Lawrence University in 1961. He was a social studies teacher in the General Martin Central Schools in Glenfield, NY and later teaching social studies in the Rondout Valley Central School District. He had also worked in the guidance office before becoming the Assistant Principal in 1970. In 1980 Arnold had become the Assistant Superintendent of the District Office. He had served on the Rondout Board of Education and later served on the Boces Board and the Ulster County School Board Association, becoming President of each. He was the Chairman of Coordinated Children's Services in Ulster County from 1987-1997.

Arnold is survived by Ruth (DeLeon), his wife of 59 years. His daughter Ethel Wesdorp of New Paltz. His five grandsons; Jade, Daniel and Russell Wesdorp and Aaron and Seth Light. Several great grandchildren and his son-in-law, Steven Light also survive. He was predeceased by his daughter Sarah Light who died in 2008.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, May 31st from 2-4 & 7-9pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. Burial will be in Pittsfield, MA at a later date.
