Carolyn A. Hudson, 90, of Kerhonkson, New York, passed, peacefully on September 12, 2026.

Born on July 20, 1936, in Kerhonkson, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Charles S. Freer and Rennie (Greene) Freer. Carolyn was raised on a dairy farm in Kerhonkson and carried her love of country living with her throughout her life. Her home was rarely without animals, which brought her great happiness over the years.

Together with her husband, Stanley, Carolyn owned and operated Carstans Hair Salon in Hurley, New York, for more than 30 years. Over the decades, their customers became much more than clients—they became an extended family. Carolyn and Stanley treasured those relationships, and the affection was warmly returned.

Deeply devoted to her community, she was a lifelong and active member of the Federated Church of Kerhonkson. Her church family was an important part of her life. She sang in the choir, helped organize and prepare church dinners, and generously shared her creativity and talents by sewing beautiful items and making wonderful wreaths and other crafts for the church’s annual bazaars.

Carolyn will be remembered for her warm heart, her quick smile, and her special way of making those around her feel welcomed and cherished. Above all, her greatest joy was her family.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Drew Decker and his wife, Brenda; her son-in-law, James Gibson Sr.; her grandchildren, James Gibson(Melissa), Jason Gibson (Heidi), Joshua Gibson (Katrina), Erica Katrak (Cy), Krista Decker (Eric), and Dustin Decker (Allier); and her ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanley; her daughter, Lori Gibson; her sisters, Shirley DeGraw and Edith Howe; and her great-granddaughter, Jessica Gibson.

A private memorial service will be held.
