Charles Henry Hummel, Sr.

March 25, 1948 — May 9, 2020

Charles Henry Hummel Sr., of Olivebridge, NY, fondly known by his friends as “Chuck” and “Charlie” passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. He was 72 years old. Charlie was born on March 25, 1948 in Newburgh, NY; he was the son of the late Benny and Cornelia (Lemunyah) Hummel.

Charlie had worked as a tow truck driver for Filippo Auto Imports and at one time owned his own towing company. Charlie loved racing. He began auto racing at the age of 16 and continued until the age of 70. A few years ago he started competing in garden tractor pulls too. He also worked as a bus driver for Rondout Valley for 15 years while at the same time still was driving the tow truck. He was a hard working man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Charlie is survived by his longtime companion Leda Walsh, (aka. Cricket Dubois) of Accord, NY; his children, Charles Hummel Jr. (aka. Buzz) of Accord, Deedra Manning and her husband Daniel of Accord; his siblings, Robert Latimore and his wife Pat of Kingston, NY, Ruth O’Connor of the state of Florida, Alice Goldstein of Kingston, NY and Maurice Burger of the state of Florida; six grandchildren, Dyani Terwilliger, Andrew Terwilliger, Joleda Terwilliger and Dennis Terwilliger Jr., Nikki Manning and Lisa Tiano.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish to do so, please send a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society.

Private services are being held at the discretion of the family.
