Christine Lynn Broekema

June 23, 1964 — May 16, 2008

Christine Lynn Broekema of Kerhonkson, NY, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital at age 43 surrounded by her family, friends, and pastor. Chris was born on June 23, 1964 in Kingston, NY, the daughter of Rhoda (Christiana) and the late Richard D. Lane. 

Mrs. Broekema was a member of the Kerhonkson Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Ellenville Rescue Squad and the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad. She was also a parishioner of the Federated Church of Kerhonkson. She had worked as a mail and supply clerk at the Eastern Correctional Facility and later became a Teacher's Assistant and Aid with the Rondout Valley School District. She really enjoyed working with younger children in the elementary schools. In Kerhonkson Elementary, she was a VIP reader on how to make maple syrup. Chris also enjoyed helping with the family business at Sugar Brook Maple Farm in Kerhonkson, but her real passion was gardening. She took great pride in her flowering gardens and her well maintained yard. Chris enjoyed camping and the ocean, especially the Jersey Shore. She also enjoyed beading and other crafts. Chris always supported her daughters in whatever they were passionate about.

On June 19, 1988 Christine married Jay Broekema at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson.

In addition to her husband Jay, and her mother Rhoda, Chris is survived by her three daughters; Heather, Jessica, and Briana all of Kerhonkson, her brothers; Richard L. Lane of Rosendale, and Donald M. Lane of Verona, her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and her dear friends. Christine was predeceased by her brother Ronald Joseph Lane, and sister Valerie Ann Lane.

The family would like to thank the entire community for all of their support during Chris' illness.

Visiting will be on Monday, May 19th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St, Kerhonkson, NY. A celebration of her life is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th 10:30am at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery.
