Christine Wyman

February 4, 1951 — December 15, 2025

Kerhonkson

Christine Wyman, lovingly known as “Chris,” passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 15, 2025, at Ellenville Hospital in Ellenville, New York. She was 74.

Chris was born on February 24, 1951, in the Bronx, New York, to Bertil and Claire Thornblad, both of whom predeceased her. She grew up in the Bronx, went to trade school, and began her career as a secretary.

Chris married Edward “Eddie” Wyman, and together they welcomed their daughter, Laura, in 1977. They built a life that included time in Texas, a return to the Bronx, and eventually a move to Kerhonkson, New York in the 1980s — a place Chris called home for the rest of her life.

For many years, Chris worked as a lunch lady with the Rondout Valley School District, both at the middle school and the high school, where she made many lifelong friends. She was known for her humor and the way she could make even a cafeteria line feel like a fun place to be. She joked with the kids daily

— and if you were one of her favorites, you might get a French fry tossed your way… or even have one expertly launched into the back of your shirt.

Chris loved reading and loved her family even more. She especially adored watching her granddaughter, Devin, grow into the wonderful 13-year-old she is today. One of the family’s most cherished recent memories is Chris being able to sing “Happy Birthday” to Devin on her 13th birthday this year.

Chris was a genuinely kind, funny, and loving person. In the last decade of her life, she lived with severe COPD, which kept her closer to home and limited time with friends, but she remained deeply connected to the people she loved most.

Chris is survived by her husband, Edward “Eddie” Wyman; her daughter, Laura Brown; her son-in-law, Jeremiah Brown; and her beloved granddaughter, Devin Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Cocchiara. She was predeceased by her parents, Bertil and Claire Thornblad, and her brother, Richard Thornblad.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services. Chris will be cremated, and a gathering to celebrate her life may be held at a later date.

She will be remembered for her humor, her big heart, her Bronx spirit, and the unforgettable way she could make people laugh — sometimes with nothing more than a well-aimed French fry.
