Denise Madeline Sweeney

July 11, 1931 — March 29, 2015

Denise Velon Sweeney, age 83, passed away on Sunday, March 29th at Woodland Ponds, New Paltz, NY.   Denise was born in Pelham, NY in 1931 to Josephine and Henri Velon.  Denise was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward Sweeney in 1976.  She is survived by a sister, Jeanne Mcwaters of North Bennington, Vermont.  Denise is also survived by her two children Barbara Sweeney Hufnagel, wife of Carl Hufnagel, of Dingman’s Ferry, Pennsylvania and Tim Sweeney, husband of Laurel Sweeney, of Stone Ridge, NY.  Denise has four grandchildren, Jessica Sweeney of New York, NY, Sean Sweeney of Rosendale, NY, Jason Hufnagel of Gloucester, MA and Blythe Hufnagel of Dingman’s Ferry, PA.

 

Denise attended Packard Junior College in New York, NY and her employment included Bennington College, Vassar College, Union Pacific Railroad and Iron Mountain Record Management.  In retirement she worked as the Registrar for the Girl Scouts of Ulster County, NY.  Denise was very active at Christ the King Episcopal Church, Stone Ridge, NY sharing her many skills and art work in designing and sewing altar linens and decorating the church for holidays. 

 

A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Episcopal Church, Stone Ridge, NY, on Saturday, May 16th at 11am.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Episcopal Church of Christ the King, 3021 Route 213, Stone Ridge, NY 12484, attention Altar Guild.
