Dorothy Hazel Stevens Swirski

August 8, 1923 – December 1, 2014

Dorothy Swirski of Kerhonkson, NY age 91 passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Huntington, NY. She was born on August 8, 1923 in Maspeth, NY.

Dorothy, Beloved wife of the late Felix Swirski; Daughter of the late Joseph and Sigrid Stevens; Beloved mother of Karol Lynn Davidson, Dorothy Ann Darnell and the late Joseph W. Darnell Sr., Richard Swirski (Cathy), Joseph Stevens Swirski (Maritsa); Beloved sister of the late Mildred Forst, the late Edith Stevens and the late Evelyn Schenone; Beloved grandmother of George F. Davidson, Joseph W. Darnell Jr., Meredith Darnell, Richard Swirski, Darlene Sica, Dominick Swirski, Jon Davidson, Jessica Swirski and Jasmine Swirski; Beloved great-grandmother of Camdon Davidson, Caelyn Swirski, Ella Darnell, Charles Swirski, Madison Sica, Joseph Sica, Zoey Darnell and Lilah Swirski. Also beloved by many family and friends.

Dorothy graduated from Julia Richmond H.S., NYC as Valedictorian of her class and honor roll.

She served during WWII at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Brooklyn, NY as a civilian medical transcriptionist. Retired from Ellenville Handle Works as officer manager and bookkeeper, also at Peppertree Furniture as a bookkeeper.

Den Mother of Pack 226 Brooklyn, NY, Fraternal Communicator Lutheran Brotherhood, served on 3 councils at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, NY, Christ Lutheran Church, Ellenville, NY and Redeemer Lutheran Church New Paltz, NY. Served 40 years as Treasurer for the combined churches. Also served as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.

The family of Dorothy would like to thank very special friends for always being there for our mother Margot Jonietz, Donnie Decker , Vaughn and Eileen Stancage. A special thank you to the doctors and staff at Huntington Hospital and Gurwin Nursing Home, Commack, NY and to Rev. Tobias Anderson and Rev. Joel Brandt.

Visiting will be held on Sunday, December 7^th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42^nd Street, Kerhonkson. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Monday, December 8^th at Redeemer Lutheran Church, New Paltz, NY. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonkson.
