Douglas Owen Simpson

Douglas Owen Simpson, 75, of Wawarsing, NY passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Douglas was born on December 17, 1936; he was the son of Andrew and Laura (Bell) Simpson.

Mr. Simpson was a veteran with the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He traveled the world for 22 years making a career of his military service and attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge Douglas began his second career as a Correctional Officer at the Eastern Correctional facility in Napanoch. He retired in 1999. Doug was a member of the Ellenville Elks #1971, the Air Force Sergeants Association and a life time member of the American Motorcylce Association. He was a motorcycle enthusiast an avid hunter and a bluegrass gospel music fan. You could find Dougie on any given Sunday at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson sharing his love for bluegrass gospel music with the congregation.

Douglas is survived by the love of his life Louise (Wells) Simpson, whom he married on December 24, 1989, his step-sons Douglas North Jr., of Accord and Donald North of Kerhonkson, his sisters Betty Allison and her husband Jim of Kerhonkson and Lorraine Simpson of North Carolina, four grandchildren, his great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be held Friday, October 19th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday the 20th at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery.
