Obituary

Dr. Rosemary DeLeo of Kerhonkson, New York, born March 1, 1956, passed away March 15th, 2026, at the age of 70, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and deep love for her family and community. For decades she served the Hudson Valley not only as a physician, but as a trusted neighbor and friend to generations of families.

Born and raised in the Rondout Valley, Rose developed an early passion for helping others. She graduated from Rondout Valley High School as salutatorian of the Class of 1974, excelling both academically and athletically. Even as a student, she devoted hundreds of hours volunteering at Ellenville Regional Hospital, where her calling to medicine began.

She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and later received her medical degree from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. After completing her training in family medicine, Rose returned home to Ulster County, determined to give back to the community that had supported her. For more than three decades, Dr. DeLeo cared for families throughout the region. Known affectionately by many as “Dr. Rose,” she treated patients with extraordinary compassion, respect, and dedication. She often cared for multiple generations within the same family, forming lasting bonds with those she served.

While her professional accomplishments were many, Rose’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a loving life with her husband, Charlie Murray Jr. Together they built a family filled with pride, laughter, and strong values.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie Murray Jr, her sons Charlie Murray III and his wife Michelle, and Connor Murray. She was a proud and loving grandmother, referred to as “GiGi”, to Charlie Murray IV, Andrew Murray, and William Murray, who brought immense joy to her life.

Rose is also survived by her brother, Charlie DeLeo and his partner Joyce Minuck, her sister Elizabeth Birrer and husband Mike Birrer, nieces and nephews Jen, Daniel, Michael, Nicole, Elizabeth, and her friends, colleagues, and grateful patients whose lives she touched.

Those who knew Rose will remember her intelligence, strength, warmth, and her unwavering commitment to helping others. Whether caring for patients, supporting her family, or serving her community, she lived her life with compassion and purpose. Dr. DeLeo’s legacy lives on in the many lives she healed, the community she served, and the family she loved so deeply. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered. She now joins her parents, Connie and Sal DeLeo in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 4 to 7 PM at the Humiston Funeral Home. 30 42nd Street Kerhonkson, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10AM at the Lady of Lords Roman Catholic Church, Route 209 Kerhonkson, NY.
