Edward R. Mance Jr. of Kerhonkson, NY, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the age of 77. Ed was born on November 6, 1938 in Ellenville, NY, the son of the late Kathryn (Ransone) and Edward Mance Sr.
Following his High School graduation Ed continued his education and received certificates for Automotive Mechanic and Welding Specialist. He enjoyed NASCAR and in his younger years, raced stock cars and flagged at Accord Speedway. Ed and his dad owned and operated Mance Ford in Kerhonkson where he became a most dedicated Ford man. Ed employed his automotive expertise as an insurance claims adjuster with Met Life Insurance for 10 years and Allstate for 25 years. Ed’s automotive repair skills were later employed at Smitty’s Autobody as in-house adjuster. Ed was also an award winning antique car collector and restorer as well as avid boater earning a USCG Captains License. Ed’s mechanical talents were instrumental in the initial building and operation of 340 Abeel Marina where he enjoyed time with his close friends and family. Everyone knew Ed could fix nearly anything on a car or boat but not many were aware of his passion and devotion to animal rights and welfare.
Ed is survived by his wife of 45 years, Irene Wustrau Mance; his daughter, Lisa Mance and her companion Dave Durcan; his grandchildren, Kyle and Kendra Welch; his great granddaughter, Chloe MacInerney and his beloved dogs Dutcha and Buffy. Also surviving are several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, August 21st from 6-8 PM at H .B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St. Kerhonkson. A Celebration of his life is scheduled for Monday, August 22nd at 1PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery. A reception will follow at Accord Co. 1, all are invited.
