Eva Nowicki, age 93, passed away Saturday, February 27, after a long illness.
Born in Ukraine on May 29, 1922, Eva was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Victor Nowicki, whom she met and married in Germany.
After surviving WWII and migrating from Europe in 1952 with her husband and first born child, she took residency in Bayonne NJ where she became a long time employee of Western Electric and faithful member of the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church. After spending many summers enjoying the Ukrainian community surrounding Ellenville NY she became a partial resident of Napanoch by 1970 and took full residency in the mid 1980's. Eva and her husband were devout members of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church and also believed in hard work. She spent her life most enjoying gardening, dancing, singing, and entertaining their many friends as often as she could.
She is survived by her loving family that includes daughter Maria Caiafa and husband Michael, son Stefan Nowicki and wife Irene, and daughter Annastasia McCarthy and husband Kevin. She leaves behind four grandchildren including Jessica Caiafa and partner Roberto Jiminez, Victoria Van Wagner and husband Alex, Stephanie Nowicki, and Ronald McCarthy.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 2, from 5-7pm at the Humiston Funeral Home in Kerhonkson. The Panakhyda will begin at 6:00pm that evening. A Catholic liturgy is at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kerhonkson on Thursday, with internment along side her husband, Victor, to follow at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Campbell Hall, NY.
