George Richard Mathews

George Richard Mathews, "Dick", of Accord, NY, passed away on July 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 83 years old. Dick was born on December 16, 1928 in Goshen, NY; he was the son of George and Glades (Blake) Mathews.
Mr. Mathews served his country in the United States Navy and was honorable discharged in 1948. Dick worked as a General Line Formen for Central Hudson Gas and Electric for many years. He was committed to his job, his home (farm) and his family. Dick served on the Rondout Valley School Board, was an active member and elder at the Community Bible Church in Wawarsing and was a proud supporter of the NRA.
Dick will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for saying, "Plan your work and work your plan"
Dick is survived by his wife Shirley of 64 years, his four daughters Paula Montanye and her husband Howard of Accord, Audrey DeGondea and her husband Nelson, E. Kate Robbins and her husband Christopher all of Accord and Dorisanne "Tooky" Clerc and her husband Jack of Wolf City, TX. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mathews was predeceased by his brother Donald Mathews and his grandson Ean C. Abrahamsen.
Visitating will be held on Sunday, July 15th from 3-7pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson, NY 12446. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Monday 11am at the Community Bible Church Rt. 209, Wawarsing. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Bible Church, Awana Program.
