Geraldine E. Gray

June 11, 1931 — October 4, 2023

Geraldine E. Gray, fondly known as Gerry, passed away with her family by her side on October 4, 2023, at Ellenville Hospital. She was born on June 11, 1931, in Newark, New Jersey, to George and Vivian (Hermansen) Christensen.

Gerry led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and resilience. She achieved many accomplishments and touched the lives of those around her. From her early years to her final moments, Gerry embraced life with unwavering strength.

Gerry's educational journey began at Ellenville High School where she graduated 12th grade. Her graduation marked a significant milestone as she became the first person in her family to achieve this feat. It was a testament to her determination and commitment to overcome any obstacles that came her way.

Gerry then embarked on a successful career path as part owner of Gray Excavating. For several years, she also served as the secretary of the company before stepping back from her role. Gerry's hard work was instrumental in the company's growth and success.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Gerry had a great passion for horses. Their grace and beauty captivated her heart, and she found solace and joy whenever she was around them. The connection she shared with these magnificent creatures brought her immense happiness throughout her life.

Family was of utmost importance to Gerry. She shared many cherished memories with her loved ones that will forever be treasured. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents George and Vivian; her husband George Oliver Gray; her son George Gray Jr.; and her companion Bill Winters. She is survived by her son Gary Gray of Highland, NY; daughter Diane Gray Dunn of Kerhonkson, NY; daughter Jane Malak and husband Michael of Kerhonkson, NY; son Wayne Gray and wife Susan of Kerhonkson, NY; son Paul Gray of Kerhonkson, NY; daughter Nancy Lawrence and husband David of Accord, NY; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sister Linda Garrison of Vermont; and many nieces and nephews.

Gerry's remarkable life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Humiston Funeral Home located at 30 42nd St in Kerhonkson, NY. Immediately following the visitation will be a service starting at 7:30 PM.

In some of her last words shared with her family, Gerry spoke poetically about a black door that she couldn't open. But later that day, she uttered words that brought both comfort and peace to her loved ones - "Someone opened the door. I can now see a lot of pretty colors." These words serve as a beautiful testament to the remarkable journey Gerry embarked upon after leaving this earth. May we find solace in knowing that she is now in a place of serenity where every color shines with endless beauty.

Gerry generously decided to have her body donated to the Albany Medical College. Her family expresses special thanks to Ellenville Hospital, Hospice, and to the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad where donations can be made to in her memory.
