Harry William Christian

Harry W. Christian passed from this world Saturday, November 23, 2013. He was 86 years old. Harry was born August 24, 1927 in Ellenville; the son of Harry and Latilda (DeWitt) Christian. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Elfriede Benz Christian.

Mr. Christian was a World War II American Merchant Marine Veteran serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After the war he began a career as a prison guard retiring from Eastern Correctional Facility in 1978. In 1975 he and his wife opened Christian's Greenhouse, a plant and flower shop that they owned and operated successfully for more than 25 years.

He is survived by his companion and caregiver Marge Carroll. A son Robert and his wife Cheryl Christian of Kerhonkson. A daughter Margaret Coisson and her husband Douglas of Hurley. Six grandchildren; Amelia Christian and her husband Ross Johnson, Kera Coisson, Grayson Christian, Hobson Christian and Drew Coisson. A sister Candice Mantone of Hawaii. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Loretta Cullen and Cherie Andersen.

Visiting will be held on Monday, November 25^th from 2-4 & 6-8pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
