Hermina Rider, a resident of Fairfax, CA and formerly of Ulster County, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Born on October 20, 1930 in the Czech Republic, she was the daughter of the late Friedrich and Hermina (Ledwina) Kurzweil.
Mrs. Rider is survived by her sister Anni Wudy, nieces Sabine Simon, Ursula Kretschmer, Margit Wudy and their families in Germany. From the Rider family, she is survived by stepson and wife Donald and Carolyn Rider of Accord, NY, and their four children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. From the Rosenkranz family, she is survived by step-daughters Sylvia Haoula and husband, Ayman of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Delpha Snow and husband, Richard of Fairfax, CA, step-daughter-in-law, Helene Rosenkranz of Dover Plains, NY, along with five grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Rider was predeceased by first husband, Andrej Neroznak; second husband, Kenneth Rider; and loving partner, Hugo Rosenkranz; brother, Fritz Kurzweil; stepsons, Richard and Leonard Rider; and stepsons Thomas and Ralph Rosenkranz.
Mrs. Rider was born in Znaim, Czech Republic. As war refugees, the family resettled in the small village of Pocking in Lower Bavaria, Germany, where she grew up. Hermina was a joyful child even though circumstances were often full of hardship for her. As a young adult, she immigrated to England. There she worked as a textile worker and met and married Andrej Neroznak in November 1951. As the economic situation in England degraded and no work could be found, Andrej and Hermina decided to emigrate to the U.S. They lived for some time in Brooklyn, NY, and later moved to Accord, NY.
Sadly, after 29 years of marriage, Andrej passed away in 1980. A few years later, Hermina met and was married to Kenneth Rider of Accord, NY from 1982 until his passing in 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family, worked at VAW in Ellenville, and volunteered at the local food pantry and church functions.
In 1999, Hermina met Hugo Rosenkranz. They shared 23 years together, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends from New York, Germany and California. In 2006, they moved from New York to Fairfax, CA. They loved getaways to Maui to celebrate their birthdays. Hermina was happy living in the Bay Area with drives around wine country, walks on the beach, and lunch out on the patio at her favorite restaurant.
Over the years, Hermina enjoyed spending time with family and friends, baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She adored her feline friends, having different cats over the years, including Stumpie, the hunter, and Mimi, the lap cat.
