James Thomas Slaven, 76, of Accord, NY passed away unexpectedly at home on September 9, 2025.

Born on April 9, 1949 in Staten Island, NY, James was the son of the late Edward and Margaret Slaven. He moved to Kerhonkson in 1985 with his wife and children. He served in the United States Army with the 9th Infantry Division in armed conflict against insurgent forces in the Republic of Vietnam. James' love for his dogs, Bonnie and Moe was unmatched, and he showered them with love. He loved them and Sam (predeceased) with all his heart. Sam was his best friend.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Michele (Mickey) Slaven; son, Kenneth Slaven; daughters, Michele Dunning (John), Jamie Wynne (Patrick), and Erin Slaven (George); grandchildren: Patrick Rion, Toniann Dunning, David Lincoln (Annalee), Shane Rion, Amanda Rion, Kristina Slaven, Samantha Osborne, Nicole Slaven, and John Smith (Christine); great-grandchildren: Hunter, Aiden, Rylee, Mira, Levon, Kyla, Avery, Adrianna, Lilyanna, Thomas, Jersey, JJ, Julian, and Autumn; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Ashley Osborne; parents, Margaret and Edward Slaven; and siblings: Edward Slaven, Marjorie Williams, William Slaven, Joyce Boroughs, Raymond Slaven, and Peggy Slaven. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 2PM at James' residence, 37 Roberts Drive, Accord, NY 12404.
