Joan Mary Gahn

Joan Mary Gahn of Kerhonkson, NY, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. She was 84 years old. Joan was born on May 3, 1933 in Locust Valley, NY; she was the daughter of William and Sarah (Fraser) Dewar.

Joan had received a Bachelor’s Degree in social work and remained in this field for a short time. She was the Secretary for the Simpson United Methodist Church of Amityville for many years. Joan married Herbert G. Gahn on September 12, 1953 in Sparkill, NY. Herbert recently predeceased her.

Joan was a member of the Community Church of High Falls where she founded the prayer shawl ministry. She was active with the garden club of Ulster County and was the past president of the Accord-Kerhonkson Golden Age Seniors. Joan also volunteered with the Ellenville Library Literacy Program.

Joan is survived by her daughter Linda Loomis (Charles) of Accord; her son, Allen Gahn (Naomi Herbert) of Hampton, England; her sister, Mary Dewar of Punta Gorda, FL; eight grandchildren, Coralyn Loomis, Thomas Loomis, Zoe Gahn, Innes Gahn, Michael O’Hanlon, Jennifer Wolfe, Courtney Pazienza and Haley Pazienza and five great grandchildren, Adriana Marano, Laith Loomis, Abigail and Clara Wolfe and Ariana Pazienza.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Herbert Gahn and her daughter Lisa Pazienza.

Visiting will be held on Friday, September 1st from 10:00am – 12:00pm with a celebration of her life immediately following at HB Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Benton Bar Cemetery.
