It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Berit Hagen of Accord, NY, announce her passing as she died peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a three-year battle with cancer. Throughout her battle, she demonstrated how tough of a Norwegian she was. She was 56 years old. The daughter of the late John and Inger (Ramslie) Hagen, she was born on April 19, 1967, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY.
Joan was a caring sister, aunt, and friend whose love and passion to give to others tirelessly was demonstrated through her talent of crocheting and knitting scarves and blankets for all those she cherished. Joan’s bubbly personality, happy disposition, huge smile, and strong embracing bear hugs were the trademark that made her such a special person. We will all remember Joan’s knowledge, fascination, and love of sharks.
Joan will be lovingly remembered, and her memories will be cherished by her sisters and brother-in-law: Esther Pomerantz of Newburgh, and Lisa Pacht and husband, Paul, of Accord. Joan will be fondly remembered by her niece and nephews: David Pacht, Edward (Krista) Pomerantz, Roxanne Pomerantz, Andrew Pacht, and Nicholas Pacht. Joan will also be forever remembered by her cherished cousin Kevin Hagen and Patty of Washington, Keith Hagen and Linda of Arizona, her Aunt Janis and Uncle Lars Hagen Jr. of Virginia, and several family members in Norway. Joan formed many friendships over the years working at Walmart in Napanoch until her retirement, and those friendships supported and cared for her beyond her retirement.
To our wonderful Hospice nurse, Tim, and the entire Hospice team, our family is grateful for your loving care, kindness, understanding, and concern for and to Joan and our family. Your attention and anticipation of Joan’s needs greatly assisted her transition and gave comfort to all of us.
