Joan Pugliese, 93, of Stone Ridge passed away July 8th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY with her daughter by her side. Joan was born on September 19, 1931, in Ellenville, New York to parents Nellie McClay VanVliet and Alden VanVliet. A native and lifelong resident of the Catskill area, Joan graduated from Ellenville High School and married Frank Pugliese of Kerhonkson, NY several years later. Joan and Frank had 2 children, Lisa and Frank, and is survived by them as well as her sister and brother, Linda Geiselhart and Bill VanVliet. Joan enjoyed working in her garden, reading, and the company of good friends and family. She was a patriot and an animal lover who spent her final years with her beloved cat Misty. Joan spent many years volunteering at the Kripplebush Schoolhouse Museum and the Rondout Valley Food Pantry in Stone Ridge. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at 200 Woodland Pond Circle on Thursday, July 17th at 9:30 (Assisted Living great room). The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the local ASPCA.
