Joan Dolores Waruch

Joan Dolores Waruch (Andersen) age 87 of Kerhonkson, NY passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Ellenville Regional Hospital. She was born on November 16, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY; daughter of Martin and Katherine (Kylland) Andersen. She married Abraham Waruch of Cherrytown in June 1946 and resided in Kerhonkson for 70 years.

Joan loved her family and friends and was loved by many for her sweet and giving personality. She worked at the Ellenville clothing factory, drove a school bus for 20 years, was a was census worker for the Town of Rochester, worked at the election board, wrote social articles for the Ellenville Press and worked as town clerk for the Town of Rochester Assessment Board. Joan was a member of the Kerhonkson Methodist Church and was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader.

She is survived by her husband Abe, age 92; her children, Claudia Masters of Suffern, NY, Mark Waruch and wife Debbie of Olean, NY, Candace Waruch of McGrath, AK, Kristen Atkins and husband Douglas of Guatemala and Martin Waruch of Sacramento, CA; her brothers, Martin, William, Robert, Michael and Kurt Andersen; 7 grandchildren, Nikol (Aaron), Jeff, Jennifer (Brent), Danielle, Frances, Ethan and Katherine; 4 great grandchildren, Lauren, Emma, Fischer and Ruby and 54 nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her sister Gloria.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Friday, March 18th at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St. Kerhonkson. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday at 10 am at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Cherrytown Cemetery.
