Obituary

Kimberly (Kim) Miller-Persell who was born on May 26th, 1960, passed on August 28th, 2026, at the age of 66.

Kim was a graduate from many educational institutions including Rondout Valley High School and SUNY New Paltz. She began her social work career working with young mothers then served as the Health and Safety Family Worker at Ellenville HeadStart for 20 years, helping many local families access resources. She was a charitable soul who donated often and gave of herself to those who needed it. Kim was a lover and a fighter, fiercely protective of those she loved and stood her ground on what she believed.

Kim recently celebrated 25 years of sobriety. She became a mentor and sponsor for others in the AA community seeking help. She was always ready to give advice or lend a listening ear and open heart to any who asked.

Over the last few years, Kim spent much of her time down at Smoking Moe's for open mic night and to enjoy some good food and good company. She loved the musical community as much as it cherished her.

Kim was kind and friendly to everyone around her, people would often stop to chat with her outside her building, or speak with her on her walks through town. She cared a lot for her neighbors and that care was returned.

Kim was an avid reader her whole life, often seen engrossed in a mystery or thriller novel.

She loved nature, going for hikes and walks often in her younger years and sitting by the water to think more recently. She collected bells and loved dream catchers.

Kim loved music. She danced with the same enthusiasm and spirit that she carried through life.

The loss of her presence will be felt strongly and will stay with everyone who loved her for the many years to come.

Kim is survived by daughter; Kahle Persell, son; Ryan Thiel (Angelica Vera), grandchildren; Christina Thiel (Dom Pugliese), Alisa Thiel, Brenon Thiel, Jayden Thiel, Rylan Thiel, Giana Thiel, and Addison Thiel; mother, Kathleen Beesimer, brothers; Greg Miller (Ann Kauzlarich), Tony Miller, and David Beesimer. In addition, Kim is survived by many other beloved family members, cherished friends and a community that has benefited greatly for having known her.

Kim was preceded in death by sons; Travis Thiel and Brandon Thiel as well as brother; John Beessimer.

A memorial service for Kim will be held at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd Street, Kerhonkson, NY 12446, on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Kim requested in life that everyone who attends her funeral service wear bright colors.
