Remedios (Remy) Castro Friedlander, a long time resident of Friedlander drive in Kerhonkson, NY died peacefully in her home on Sunday, February 9, 2014. She was 90 years old. Remy was born on Sept. 5, 1923 in Tarlac, Philippines. She was married to the late Abraham Friedlander in June 1946.
Remy was a poultry farmer the owner of Friedlander Farm in Kerhonkson from 1950 to 1971. She was an avid bowler and member of the Ladies Auxillary. She was a Social StudiesTeacher in Grahamsville Central School District and Kingston City School District. After raising her five sons, she attended school in SUNY Albany and earned her master’s degree in Library Science. She worked in Monticello Central School District as a Librarian from 1977 to 1992.
Remy was predeceased by her sons Dr. Walter Friedlander and Richard Friedlander, both of Kerhonkson, NY. She is survived by her three sons: Dr. Lester Friedlander of Laceyville, PA; Dr. Barry Friedlander and his wife Merlina Friedlander of Parksville, NY; and Glenn Friedlander and his wife ZairenFriedlander of Kerhonkson, NY. She is also survived by herdaughter-in-law, Valerie Friedlander of Kerhonkson, NY.
Also surviving are her grandchildren: Rachel and Doug May;Jessica and Travis Watson; Jacqueline and Walter Rought;Michele and Mark Eagle; Jeremy Friedlander; CherylFriedlander; David Friedlander; Jason Friedlander; BrianFriedlander and Joshua Friedlander. Her surviving great grandchildren: Dayna; Paul; Zakoryan; Haidyn; Hunter; Dalton; Trinity, Vayda; Sydney, and David Walter.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday the 12th of February at the H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Kerhonkson Synagogue Cemetery, Kerhonkson. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Remy’s name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), 424 East 92nd St., New York, NY 10128.
