Richard L. Connor ("Dick")

On Sunday afternoon, Richard (“Dick”) Louis Connor passed away at his home. He was surrounded by family, just as he spent most Sundays. Richard will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 36 years, Beverly, and his two sons, Daniel and Ryan; as well as Daniel’s wife, Brooke, and his beloved grandchildren, Julia and Caroline, and Ryan’s wife, Allison, who is expecting Richard’s third grandchild in February 2026.

Richard cherished the years he spent with his family. He is survived by his sister, Carol Pomeroy (Jon) — or, as he lovingly called her, “Christmas Carol” — his mother-in-law, Hilda Kortright, his many loving brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sharon Zanolini (Paul), Linda Ward (Keith), Frank Kortright (Nancy), Debbie Quirk, Paul Kortright (Andrea), Jonathan Kortright (Diane), Christopher Kortright, and Jill Trepanier (John); as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Hartley and Anna Connor, and his dear friend, Eddie Quirk.

Richard spent his youth in the hills of Ellenville, which nurtured his lifelong love of hunting and sportsmanship. He worked in the hospitality industry during the Borscht Belt era of the Hudson Valley, at establishments like Cohen’s Bakery and The Nevele, which sparked another of Richard’s great loves — breakfast food. He enjoyed countless mornings at either Barringer’s or The Roost.

Richard later served as a Corrections Officer and CERT Team member at Eastern Correctional, where he met great friends, like his dear friend Tommy Lewis (“Mr Fix-it”). He found joy in hunting, kayaking, and hiking in the woods. Above all else, he treasured mentoring and teaching his sons, young nephews, and granddaughter through their first hunts, and he cherished watching them hit their first targets. His expert knowledge of the New York Yankees and sports made every game with his sons more special than the last — including the countless baseball, soccer, lacrosse, and football games he watched and coached for his sons and granddaughters over the years. His family will always remember concerts at Bethel Woods, days at Saratoga Racetrack, road trips to national parks, and Yankees games shared with Richard.

Richard was a thoughtful man who cared deeply for his family’s well-being and the home he shared with his wife. His logic, work ethic, goofy sense of humor, and love will live on through his family for years to come.

Visitation will be held at Humiston Funeral Home on Thursday, August 21 from 4 - 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's St. Andrew's Church in Ellenville on Friday, August 22 at 10 AM followed by burial at Pine Bush Cemetery in Kerhonkson. A repast will be held at the ElmRock Restaurant in Stone Ridge.
