Theda J. Nelson

Theda J. Nelson of Kerhonkson, NY passed away surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home on Friday, February 26, 2021. She was 86 years old. Theda was born on August 1, 1934 in Kingston, NY; she was the daughter of the late Tracy and Gladys M. (Simpson) Sutton.

Theda graduated from Kingston High School and shortly after began working at Trailways as a payroll clerk. Growing up Theda enjoyed singing while her mother played the piano. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and had the honor of singing at several weddings. Theda was a lover of all animals, but Brandy her bulldog stole her heart. She enjoyed trips to the casino and tolerated the family camping trips as long as Brandy was by her side.

Theda will be deeply missed, but has been reunited with her beloved Brandy, her parents and her sister Natalie Worden.

Theda is survived by her husband Theodore W. Nelson Sr. of Kerhonkson; her sons, Dan Nelson of Rosendale and Theodore W. Nelson Jr.; her brother, Eli Sutton Sr. and his wife Ethel of Kerhonkson; her sister, Cheryl Hassett and her husband Joseph of High Falls; her grandson, Theodore “TJ” W. Nelson III; her best friend Nina Hall as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting will be held on Wednesday, March 3rd from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, March 4th at 12:00 noon at Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonkson.

Contributions may be made in Theda’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I have a really great memory of Theda and Teddy when we did a weekend up in Old Forge. They had the biggest baddest Arctic Cat. We had a blast. My condolence to Theda's family and friends. Time marches on.
