Thomas William Sommer, Sr.

Thomas William Sommer, Sr., age 79, of Accord, NY passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Born on October 16, 1937 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth (Donohue) Sommer.
 

Tom had served his country with the United States Army where he had been a skilled sharpshooter and marksman. After his military service he had married Veronica I. Rein on November 7, 1959. Together they lived in Accord for the past 49 years. Tom was a member of the RV Rod & Gun Club where he had earned many awards for his shooting. He was a private pilot and had owned five airplanes over the years, and also would build and fly remote control airplanes. He enjoyed the outdoors, repairing clocks and sharing his knowledge of history with his children and grandchildren.

Tom is survived at home by his wife Veronica, their children; Thomas W. Sommer Jr and his wife Deborah and Donald E. Sommer and his wife Nicole. Grandchildren; Ashley Nicole Sommer (Billy) Moylan, Emily-Claire Sommer (Jason) Moylan, Dakota N. Sommer, Torre Leigh Sommer and Rachel Lauren Sommer. Great grandchildren; William T. Moylan III, Casey Marie Moylan, Kristen Moylan, Taylor Moylan, Connor Moylan, Kole Moylan and Evelyn Moylan. His brother Pius F. Sommer of N. Ft. Myers, FL and many neices and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother Henry and his sister Charlotte. 

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 30th from 2-6pm at the Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Monday, May 1st at 10 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Whitfield Cemetery, Accord, NY.
