Douglas Decker

June 15, 1946 — February 6, 2021

Douglas Decker, 74 passed away February 6, 2021 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital after a short illness (Pneumonia and complications due to Covid)
Douglas (Dougy) was born June 15, 1946 in Ellenville Hospital NY. He grew up in Kerhonkson where he lived most of his life, he moved to Port Charlotte, FL 19 yrs ago after he retired. He was the son of the late Daniel and Grace (Foreman) Decker.
Dougy worked for the Town of Rochester Highway Dept. for 30 years, where he worked as a truck driver and mechanic. Dougy was a jack of all trades, master of none (he would say quite often). He knew how to operate all heavy equipment. He was an outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, especially deer. He loved being around his family and friends, having bbqs and pig roasts which he did for many years and many of his friends and locals would call on him to roast their pigs or just to lend a hand.
Dougy would give the shirt off of his back for anyone in need. He always kept things real with people he talked to. He would always say don't live in a fantasy world, you wont get anywhere in life. Always live in reality. Dougy's 2 favorite quotes were these, ( If it aint broke dont fix it, & We got time).  He was a man of his word in a time when a hand shake was all you needed. He truly was one of a kind.

Dougy is survived by his wife Dolores of 50 years. His children, son, John Decker of Port Charlotte, FL daughter Alicia Soyke of Port Charlotte FL, son David L. Decker of Kerhonkson NY, daughter Dawn Beebe of Kerhonkson NY. He had 15 grandchildren, Jessica, Jonathan, Steven, Anthony, Kevin, Karen, Danielle, Brianna, Valerie, Tomi, Christopher, Destiny, Corey, Brittany, and Kaitlyn. He also had 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Donald Decker.
Dougy was predeceased by brothers Irvin Decker, Pearly Decker, Leon Decker, Pete Decker, Arthur Decker, Burton Decker, and Roylee Decker. Sisters Rae Decker, Francis Barringer, Mildred Barringer, and Janet Bocher.
