Obituary

Stuart Russell Nelson a lifelong resident of Kerhonkson, NY died in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on March 22, 2020. He was 81. Stuart was born on August 16, 1938 in Kerhonkson, the son of the late Theodore and Helen (Lawrence) Nelson.

Stuart graduated from Kerhonkson High School in 1956 and immediately joined the US Army National Guard until 1964. The following November 14 he married the love of his life, Anita Wustrau. Soon after they started raising their family in Kerhonkson. Stuart was a carpenter and for many years had his own business before he went to work at Eastern Correctional Facility as an Instructor teaching carpentry. Stuart loved his family and also enjoyed restoring cars, going to car shows, and NASCAR.

Stuart was predeceased by his loving wife Anita who died in 2010. He is survived by his three children; Lori Wightman and her husband John of Kerhonkson, James Nelson and his wife Jessica of Cumming, GA and David Nelson and his wife Carolyn of Kerhonkson. 6 grandchildren; Emily and Zachary Wightman, James and Robert Nelson, and Hunter and Connor Nelson. His brother Theodore W. Nelson of Kerhonkson and many brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Stuart’s family and friends will honor and celebrate his life at a later date to be announced.
